Baby Shower Ideas to Consider

Baby shower ideas have changed significantly over time. Once, a baby shower would be a formal affair and one that mainly involved the mother and her immediate family and close female relatives. It was an opportunity to sit around, discussing top tips for labour and how to feed, whilst sipping on endless cups of tea.

These days, the typical baby shower has evolved somewhat and become much more creative and (dare I say it?) fun. With a few games and plenty of food and drink, you and your friends and family members can definitely make it a memorable occasion. And if you are very organised and know exactly what you have not already bought for your forthcoming bundle of joy, you may wish to create a gift registry to ensure your guests give what is required.

Fun and Creative Baby Shower Ideas

Parent Competitions

One significant change to the traditional baby shower is inviting a different circle of guests, including male friends. Some couples host a baby shower together, inviting their closest couple friends. Doing this allows you all to be engaged in some competitive games. Divide the guests into two gender teams. Have the men and women challenging each other to do things quicker than the others, such as changing a baby’s nappy or clothes. Of course, you’ll need to use a realistic size doll instead of an actual baby as the speed at which people will try to do this will mean flying babies, no doubt.

Dirty Nappies

Grab a few different chocolate bars e.g. Crunchie, Bounty, Dairy Milk, Galaxy. Melt slightly in the microwave and smear a small amount onto the inside of a nappy. Your guests will need to sniff the dirty nappies and guess what the chocolate bar was before it ended up resembling something disgusting and smelly. This is one of my favourite baby shower ideas!

Alternative Lullabies

We all know traditional lullabies like Twinkle Twinkle and Rock-a-Bye Baby. Bored of hearing those associated with babies? You will find rock, pop and indie songs recreated as lullabies on YouTube and Spotify. The pregnant woman and her partner could create a playlist and ask your guests to work out what the songs are.

Guess the Puree

Although more and more people are now choosing baby-led weaning instead of purees, the jars of baby food still have a place. Buy a selection of these and place a small amount into bowls and label them with numbers. Guests should sample them, using baby spoons, of course, and then guess what flavour they are. Here’s hoping that none of you have strong gag reflexes!

Broken Waters

You can buy teeny tiny plastic babies that will fit into an ice cube mould. Prepare these well in advance. When all the guests have arrived, provide them each with a baby in an ice cube in their drink (hot drinks don’t count, of course!). The first person whose ice cube melts to release the baby must shout “My waters have broken!”

Bump Size

Another of the most creative and fun baby shower ideas is to buy a ball of string and grab a pair of scissors, too. Each guest should guess how big your baby bump is and cut a piece of string that matches that measurement. Much hilarity will ensue with this game, for sure!
