Five Great Action Movies With A PG Rating

action movies

If you’re anything like me, you love action movies.

Even though I am fully aware that I’m not watching high art or cinematic perfection, I am perfectly content spending a couple of hours just sitting back and letting explosion after explosion at the bikini and high-end champagne warehouse entertain me. I kid, of course, but part of enjoying a good action movie is that you’re ready for a little shtick. The problem is that when you’ve got younger viewers around, a lot of these movies may not be suitable. What do you do?

Well, you start looking around for other action movies. Just because you were really looking forward to the R rating onslaught of your favorite action movie franchise doesn’t mean you can’t find a great movie that packs in all of the same thrills and chills while also bearing in mind that you’ve got the family hanging with you. You just need to be a little more creative in how you approach choosing a movie, and you have to be a little flexible in your expectations.

For the sake of argument, let’s focus on a PG rating for the films to be chosen. This way, you’re not working with G rating, little ones type of material, and you’re also not flirting with the appropriateness of PG-13 which is tailored toward “tweens”. Now, you might be thinking that it will be impossible to find any good action movies with a PG rating because that’s like looking for a movie for an eight-year-old. Oh, ye of little faith!

Here are five great action movies with a PG rating that everyone in your family will get a kick out of:

The Incredibles — A story of superheroes forced to retire and living the dreary lives the rest of us all know too well. However, you can’t keep a good guy down forever, and when evil shows up, old instincts kick in.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (the 1st Indiana Jones movie) — From the first frame to the last, this movie sets off to create one of the greatest adventure films ever made. It is non-stop action, and sets the standard for the rest of the franchise.

Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope — Do we really need to say much about this one? It is a masterpiece.

Rocky Balboa — Guess what? Everyone gets old, and that includes our favorite Philly palooka, Rocky. This is one of the most poignant films made in recent years & a great way to bring closure to one of cinemas great characters.

Night at the Museum — A big dreamer, an Egyptian curse, and when the lights go out for the night, everything in a museum is game for coming to life. Not only is the action great, but it serves up one fine ensemble cast.

See? In the end, the PG rating did nothing to take away from finding a handful of action movies that everyone in your family could enjoy. What’s even better is that every one of these movies is part of a movie franchise, which means you have a lot more movies to watch, and a heck of a lot more action to be enthralled by. It also means more time with the family!
